A Risograph is a type of print made on a Japanese stencil duplicator machine, or, a RISO. A RISO machine uses soy-based ink and a print technique similar to screen printing and a copy machine. Risographs are imperfect, which is part of what makes them so special. Registration is usually a little off, occasional ink smudging occurs, and layers print unpredictably as lighter or darker​. These charming inconsistencies, even though mechanically produced, retain a unique, one-of-a-kind, hand-made quality.
